Company overview

ABVC BioPharma, Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company, not an established seller of medicines. It licenses research discoveries for further development, with its pipeline sourced from related parties. Its candidates include drugs and Vitargus, a device designed to replace the eye’s vitreous material. It plans to advance candidates through Phase II trials, then seek pharmaceutical partners to complete Phase III development and commercialize them if approved.

Partners pay for rights to develop and commercialize these candidates. Licensing has supplied most of ABVC’s revenue, concentrated among a small number of licensees. Named partners include related parties OncoX BioPharma for cancer candidates and ForSeeCon Eye Corporation for ophthalmology products, including Vitargus. Agreements provide for license payments and payments tied to milestones, with royalties contingent on future product sales; ABVC has not received royalties. Some license consideration can be paid in partner shares rather than cash, and certain cash milestones depend on partners raising funds.

Its subsidiary BioKey also earns limited revenue by helping clients develop drug formulations, prepare regulatory submissions and manufacture clinical-trial supplies. BioKey’s human-clinical-trial drug manufacturing license has expired, with renewal in progress. ABVC has not commercialized a new drug and cannot market candidates without regulatory approval. Continuing development depends on maintaining underlying licenses, partners advancing projects and outside funding; funding shortages have already put several projects on hold.

ABVC BioPharma, Inc.’s results hinge on clinical development, whether it can collect licensing payments from OncoX and ForSeeCon, and BioKey’s business developing and manufacturing drugs for clients—not on the broad biotechnology peers supplied for comparison.
