Worth notingAgendaThu, Nov 12 ET 10:00 AM1 min read
Existing-home sales measure completed transactions in previously owned homes, not new construction or house prices. This release covers October; the previous reading was 3.99 million, with no estimate supplied. Recent new-home sales were weak, and D.R. Horton warned that mortgage pressure would persist. The report tests whether the broader resale market can complete transactions, although low sales can reflect owners' reluctance to list as well as buyers' affordability problems.[1]

Watch whether transactions recover, alongside available listings and mortgage conditions. More completed sales create business for brokers, title-service providers, furniture sellers and appliance companies; continued weakness limits those revenues. For homebuilders, scarce resale supply may reduce competition, but poor affordability still constrains buyers, so falling resales are not automatically good news for new homes. The next question is whether any recovery comes with an easing financing burden rather than simply changes in prices or the mix of homes available.[1]
