ADP estimates the monthly net change in jobs at US private employers. It excludes government employment and is not the official payroll report. The previous reading was an increase of 90,000 jobs; no estimate is supplied for this release. Recent evidence of low layoffs but weak hiring leaves an important distinction unresolved: are companies merely retaining workers, or also creating additional paychecks?[1]

Look at the net job change and whether gains extend across industries rather than depending on a few businesses. Stronger hiring could help retailers, restaurants and consumer services by adding customers with paychecks, but could leave homebuilders waiting longer for interest-rate relief. Weaker hiring would damage the income outlook even if it strengthens the case for rate cuts. Check it against official employment data afterward; ADP is not a reliable substitute for that result.[1]
