Households delaying solar installations could keep orders and profits under pressure across equipment makers and installers.
Enphase Energy released its third-quarter 2026 results on October 27. The company supplies home solar equipment, including devices that convert solar-panel output into electricity homes can use; quarterly earnings were $0.41 per share, below analysts’ $0.47 estimate and $0.90 a year earlier.[1][2]
Coverage of the results cited softer-than-expected US residential solar demand, persistent weakness in Europe and a disappointing fourth-quarter outlook. That outlook describes expectations for the next quarter; the results are still to come.[3]
Interest-rate pressure is weakening US residential solar demand: for households borrowing to install a system, higher financing costs make electricity savings less able to cover monthly payments, potentially delaying purchases.[4] As a benchmark for broader borrowing costs, the 10-year US Treasury yield rose to 5.05% on October 28 from 4.99% the previous session; solar loans carry their own rates.
Fewer installations mean fewer equipment purchases by installers and less revenue to cover suppliers’ fixed costs, such as factories and research. Enphase’s sales and margins declined, and operating profit fell 90%, showing how weaker demand is already reaching earnings.[5] Weakness in both the US and Europe also limits the company’s ability to offset lost sales in one market with growth in the other.[3]
Rivals such as SolarEdge face the risk of reduced installer orders as Enphase’s weak outlook points to pressure on residential solar demand. SolarEdge shares were reported down about 10% during October 28 trading, showing investors were reassessing peers’ exposure too.[3][6]
Household-facing solar businesses such as Sunrun face the risk of customers delaying contracts as financing costs make installations harder to afford, potentially slowing new business. Sunrun shares were reported down about 5% during October 28 trading.[4][6]
