An oral option could expand weight-loss drug demand, but sales still depend on final approval and patient access.
Eli Lilly’s Foundayo, a weight-loss medicine taken as a pill, has gained EU regulatory backing, moving it closer to a European launch.[1] This is a step in the approval process, not final authorization to sell the medicine.[1]
If ultimately approved and launched, Foundayo could give patients who prefer pills to injections another option, potentially bringing in new users as well as competing for existing weight-loss drug users.[1] That creates a possible source of European sales for Lilly and additional competition for other weight-loss drugmakers.[1] Regulatory backing alone does not generate revenue: actual sales also depend on reaching the market and on whether pricing and healthcare coverage make treatment affordable.[1]
Lilly is closer to offering an oral weight-loss treatment in Europe. If Foundayo reaches the market, rival drugmakers would face another pill option: overall demand could grow, but existing products could also lose some users.[1]
