The July Michigan sentiment survey is a quick read on how households feel about prices, jobs, and their own spending room. It does not usually move markets by itself, but in a week loaded with inflation and spending data, it helps explain whether the consumer is holding up or starting to worry. Markets expect the index to improve to 51 from 49.5.
Sentiment feeds into how willing people feel about spending on discretionary items. The link is indirect, but a better mood usually helps the consumer side of the market.
